TMT full form in medical term stands for Treadmill Test which is a type of electrocardiogram or ECG test performed on the patient. The test as it is named requires a patient to walk on the treadmill as part of the overall cardio checkup. This allows the doctor and the medical personnel to identify and monitor the heart rhythms, heartbeat, breathing pattern, and blood pressure.
The test is also known as a stress test. The idea behind this is that the patient is put under stressful circumstances to map their heart health and identify any issues underlying. It can also be performed on a stationary bike. The patients are required to wear a gown and will have electrodes attached to their chest. This will monitor the entire mapping of the heartbeat and more during the procedure.
The test is generally referred to patients with heart issues and symptoms of blood flow or angina pain, i.e. chest pain due to the obstruction of the blood flow. The test is also undertaken by patients with a history of heart issues to give an update and identify the progress of their heart health. The test helps to identify a wide variety of health issues like diagnosing heart arrhythmia, and coronary artery disease, and ensuring that the heart is at a healthy stage before any major surgical procedure.
