The full form of RTA is Renal Tubular Acidosis.Renal Tubular Acidosis is a condition where the kidneys cannot remove the acid from the blood. In such a case, the acid levels in the blood increase and thus turning the blood highly acidic. This can further impact bodily functions. There are three types of RTA. These are Type 1, Type 2, and Type 4 RTA.
There are different complications associated with RTA. These include renal medullary cystic disease, urinary tract infection, bone disease, kidney disease, electrolyte imbalance, muscle weakness, cardiac arrest, and irregular heartbeats. Doctors prescribe a solution of sodium citrate or sodium bicarbonate to treat Renal Tubular Acidosis. There is no prevention for Renal Tubular Acidosis, but you must avoid acidic food if you are already diagnosed with Renal Tubular Acidosis.
In some cases, RTA is also referred to as Road Traffic Accident.
