PP full form in medical term is Post Prandial, and you may have heard the terms PPBG or PPG. These are the types of blood tests to determine the blood sugar or glucose level. In general language, Post Prandial is used for something done after a meal, it could be breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The postprandial glucose or blood sugar test can be quite effective to diagnose the early stages of diabetes. However, most of the time, these tests are performed to check the effectiveness of the drugs being used to control blood sugar levels.
When you eat something, after just 10 minutes, your blood sugar level will begin to rise. And it would take anywhere between 1 to 2 hours (depending upon the diet) that your blood sugar or glucose level will be at the peak. In response, our body secretes insulin to normalize the sugar level in the blood. Another sample is taken before such blood tests to get to know about the normal sugar level of a person so that the examiner can compare the postprandial glucose test sample to the sample taken earlier.
