PMP full form in medical term is Pseudomyxoma peritonei. It is the most common issue, which usually begins as a moderate-developing tumor in the appendix. Hence, it is categorized as a low-grade mucinous appendiceal neoplasm. In some cases, it could build up in other organs, such as the bladder, bowel, or ovary. However, both men and women can be affected by PMP.
The symptoms and signs of PMP usually take time to appear, even some may not have symptoms for a long time, which means that the disease is difficult to diagnose or detect. But, the most common symptom is spotted abnormality of the abdomen, the peritoneum, and the abdominal wall. Irritation, abdominal pain, swelling of the abdomen, and redness are some other signs.
In PMP, an enlarged abdomen size is a significant symptom that can appear due to conditions such as renal abnormality, ascites, or neoplasm.
What causes PMP is still transparent. However, many tumors can give rise to PMP. It has been found that tumor cells from the affected appendix migrate to the abdominal cavity and pelvic areas. This mucous can proceed to produce and increase ascites, which disappear throughout the abdomen.
