MICU full form in medical term means Medical Intensive Care Unit. It is a unit in the hospital that exclusively caters to critically ill patients. It helps to treat cases of varying conditions, many of which are life-threatening. The patients coming into MICU often require intensive care and round-the-clock supervision and care. Hence the MICU is the area where they are admitted and a highly trained team of doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals work round the clock to provide the best care and guidance for the patients.
MICU is different from normal ICU as this unit only takes in patients related to medical cases. It is a specialized intensive care unit that helps in treating serious cases ranging from cardiac, pulmonary, renal, neurological, endocrine, and other infectious diseases. It also helps treat and care for cases of poisoning and overdose. The patients also receive life supports like ventilation when needed alongside stabilizing and recovery. The ratio of medical personnel to the patients is much lower here somewhat in the range of 1:2 to help provide proper care and recovery to each patient. Similar to that MICU, hospitals also have dedicated section like PICU, NICU, and more which caters to pediatric and neonatal care.
