ICMP full form in medical term is Ischemic Cardiomyopathy, the most common kind of DC (dilated cardiomyopathy). In this condition, the specialisation of the heart to pump blood reduces significantly. The cause may be the left ventricle, the heart’s primary pumping chamber, swollen, weak and dilated. This is due to the lack of blood supply to the heart muscle due to heart attacks and coronary artery disease.
Symptoms and causes associated with ICMP are fatigue, swelling of feet and legs, shortness of breath, chest pain or pressure that happens with physical activity, weight gain, congestion and cough associated with fluid retention, fluttering or palpitations in the chest because of arrhythmia, light-headedness, dizziness, fainting, etc.
ICMP can be treated with lifestyle changes, medications, drugs, or surgery. The treatment aims to aid coronary artery disease, reduce heart failure symptoms and improve cardiac function. Your doctor also suggests lifestyle alterations to reduce hospitalizations and symptoms. In some cases, surgery and devices may be recommended.
Before starting any treatment, your doctor suggests some tests to monitor ICMP accurately. They may also perform a physical examination, monitor your medical history, and perform a blood test or X-ray.
