HOD full form in medical term is Hypertrophic osteodystrophy. It is an orthopedic growth disorder that can lead to swelling, pain, and limping in the dog’s joints. Giant breed and large breed dogs like Labrador, Standard poodle, etc., are usually affected by HOD.
HOD dogs usually saw bones of the affected penis, including the ulna, radius and tibia in the dog’s feet. However, it can also occur on bones that develop dog ribs, vertebrae, jaw and ribs. If your pet has HOD, there will be a problem with blood flow at the bone elementary place. In this case, changes in blood flow indicate that the bone may not be sufficiently rigid. When the new bones first grow without appropriately hardening, it can lead to the symptoms of HOD and inflammation in dogs.
In most cases, the signs and symptoms of HOD in dogs are constant limping in the front legs. They may also experience leg swelling, especially near the joints. Some pets have diarrhea for a short duration or may also feel unwell, which will appear in the form of reduced appetite, fatigue, and fever.
