GRD full form in medical is Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease also known as Acid Reflex. It is a type of chronic condition in which the content of the stomach (acidic content) rises upwards and enters the Esophagus. It happens when the LES or lower esophageal sphincter (a valve or junction between the stomach and esophagus) has problems properly closing. And because of that, you may have symptoms like intense heartburn, an acidic taste in the back of the mouth, and regurgitation.
While suffering from Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, people can also have difficulties in swallowing properly, sore throat, choking, and intense burning sensation in some rare cases. Patients can also have other symptoms like nausea, chest pain, frequent burping, bad breath, sensation in teeth, etc. In some rare cases where GRD isn’t treated for a longer period of time, it can actually lead to a patient having Esophagitis, Barret’s Esophagus, and Asthma. Obesity, pregnancy, certain types of medications, an unhealthy lifestyle, eating processed foods mostly, fizzy drinks, and smoking are some common reasons that trigger GRD or GERD in humans.
