What is The Full Form of EDD?

EDD full form in medical term is Estimated Date of Delivery, also called estimated due date. The term EDD indicates calculated supposed/estimated delivery time/date for pregnant women. EDD is the due period when healthcare providers anticipate the baby’s delivery. In normal cases, the EDD date is anywhere between 37 weeks – 42 weeks.

Methods of calculating EDD

EDD is ideally a process, and several methods to calculate the estimated delivery date. The two popular methods of calculating the estimated due date are as follows:

Method1: The duration/date point used is decided as the origin of the estimated age. The term estimated age comprises the corresponding time or the beginning point of women’s LMP (last normal menstrual period). This method is considered the most accurate method. It also consists of 14 days to a known period from the time fertilization is added.

Method2: In this method, the estimated age at the birth period of a baby is added to the above period. Ideally, the baby is born at an estimated age of 40 weeks or 280 days. This period is commonly used as a standard estimate for female pregnancies. This method of calculation of EDD requires estimation of the gestational age of the child, gestational age, etc.
