DGO full form in medical term is a Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynecology. It’s a two-year span of a postgraduate course that one can opt for after their MBBS or BAMS. It is a must to have a bachelor’s degree before you even go for DGO. Many government colleges in India have such specialization courses, and for admission, you must clear the merit-based entrance exam, usually referred to as NEET PG.
In the course, you’ll learn about obstetrics, which is a field of study where the sole focus is all about pregnancy and the birth of a child. Not only that, you’ll be researching and studying the postpartum period as well. In gynecology, you’ll be learning all about women’s diseases, especially the ones related to the reproductive organs. DGO is a study of both Obstetrics and Gynecology, which are quite related to one another. Along with this, there are some other components that are no different, but you’ll be going over them throughout the course, such as general baby care, breastfeeding, artificial feeding, common diseases during pregnancy and in newborns, premature infant treatment, surgical and clinical pieces of training, etc.
