CFT full form in medical is a Complement fixation test. In Serology, there are many diagnostic tests that are performed, but the CFT or Complement fixation test is the most common one. The goal of this fixation test is to determine the absence or presence of specific antibodies or antigens in a patient’s body fluids, mostly in blood. CFT is a type of qualitative test due to a specific amount of antibodies or antigens present in the sample that can not be identified by any other method or diagnostic tests.
The results of this test are determined by the complement fixed to the specific antigen-antibody complex in the serum or blood. The noteworthy thing is that you can’t directly tell from the samples what is the result of the CFT test, therefore an indicator system is needed in place. The sensitivity of the complement fixation test is pretty low compared to other serology diagnostic tests, and it also takes a lot of time in the proper study of a serum or blood sample. Therefore tests like ELISA and IFA are the preferred serology tests.
