BMW full form in Medical term is bio-medical waste; as its name implies, it is waste that is formed during the treatment, diagnosis, or injection of animals or humans. Also, it is generated from testing or production of biological. In simple words, BMW consists of any liquid or solid waste that may present a threat of infection to humans, such as body parts, non-liquid tissue, blood products, blood, and body fluids from humans or animals.
BMW waste also includes veterinary waste, which contains human diseases. Presently, biomedical waste is collected and transported by GreenCarpet Pvt Ltd in Shimla, India. Later, the waste is managed by MC Shimla and monitored by HP State Environment Protection and Pollution Control Board.
There are 4 major types of bio-medical waste, Hazardous, infectious, general, and radioactive.
BMW’s flagship rule relays on the concept of the 3R, which includes reducing, recycling, and reusing. The BMW management principle is to prevent waste build-up or to recover as much waste as possible rather than dispose of it. Thus, several methods of BMW disposal are to reduce, reuse, recover, treat, recycle and dispose of. BMW follows the critical approach from the cradle, which is the quantification, isolation, collection, transportation, and treatment of bio-medical waste.
