ADS full form in medical term is Acquired demyelinating syndrome. Experts and Scientists don’t actually know what causes demyelinating syndrome in the human body, but the assumptions are that virus invasion, or inflammation from an immune response could be a possible reason. However, it’s been seen in some studies that ADS can be a genetic disease, but it’s not very common. If this condition is treated when the early symptoms are showing, further damage can be prevented. However, there’s no specific cure for the acquired demyelinating syndrome.
Myelin is a protective covering around the nerves in our body. It is more like an insulation layering that you see on house wires. A patient with the demyelinating syndrome has this condition where the immune system of his/her body starts to eat away at the myelin layer. Once this starts to happen, there’s nothing medical professionals can do to prevent it. However, as mentioned earlier, with a series of drugs, it is possible to control the disease course, but only at an early stage. In severe cases, a patient can face vision loss, not being able to control muscles, and other sensory disabilities.
