AIIMS Director Dr. Randeep Guleria is a pulmonologist who also serves as the institute's director. He is widely considered as one of India's foremost medical authorities, and he is recognized for the development of India's premier center for pulmonary care & sleep disorders at the AIIMS
He currently serves as the director of the AIIMS in New Delhi, India. He is also a member of India's response to the COVID-19 crisis. Following his undergraduate studies in medicine at the Indian Government Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla, Dr. Guleria went on to study at the PGIMER in Chandigarh, where he obtained his MD in medicine and his DM in pulmonary treatments.
He began his career at the AIIMS where he progressed through the ranks to be a professor as well as the department's head of pulmonology & sleep disorders. He is recognized for assisting in the establishment of a unit for respiratory illnesses & sleep therapy at AIIMS, which itself is believed to be the first of its kind in the country.
During his tenure as a personal doctor of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, India's former Prime Minister from 1998 to 2004, Dr. Guleria was recognized for his work in the field of pulmonary illness research. A total of 36 chapters as well as 268 articles have been published as a result of his study discoveries.
His achievements were recognized by the Indian government in 2015 with the Padma Shri award, which is the country's fourth-highest civilian honor. He attended St. Columba's School in Delhi and graduated with honors. The Indian medical council has conferred upon him the renowned BC Roy National Award for 2014 in the category of renowned medical person, in recognition of his contributions to medicine.
