TSH Full Form in Medical term is Thyroid Stimulating Hormone. The pituitary, a small gland near the brain’s base, produces thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH).
Hypothyroidism, also known as an underactive thyroid, occur when the thyroid gland fails to produce enough of two crucial hormones, triiodothyronine (T3) & thyroxine (T4). As a result, the pituitary gland produces more TSH to encourage the thyroid to increase its hormone output. Hypothyroidism can also be caused by insufficient TSH production by the pituitary gland.
Hyperthyroidism, also known as overactive thyroid, can be brought on by an excess of T3 or T4 production by the thyroid gland. The pituitary gland then attempts to reduce thyroid hormone synthesis by producing less thyrotropin (TSH).
If you are taking any of the other medications, be sure to let the doctor know about them.
