LM full form in medical term is lymphatic malformations. They are a bunch of misshaped or enlarged lymphatic channels that don’t work adequately. It encompasses lymph nodes, organs (thymus, spleen, adenoids, and tonsils), and thin tubes that take lymphatic fluid.
It is a vital part of the immune system since it helps eliminate extra fluid from the body’s tissues. People with LM may have slower or lessened movement of lymphatic fluid. As a result, it will extend the lymphatic channels, resulting in cysts and swelling in the affected part of the body.
The major cause of LM is the development and creation of lymphatic vessels. But they are not occurred with taking medications, drugs, or environmental exposure during the pregnancy. Most LM cases appear in early childhood or at the time of birth.
Also called cystic hygromas or lymphangiomas, Lymphatic malformations may occur in any body organ. But it usually appears in the neck and head. However, depending on the locations and size of the malformation, complications and symptoms will differ from patient to patient.
