When an animal consumes pieces of wires, nails, or other non-metallic materials, its reticular wall is damaged. These objects can damage the reticulum, allowing bacteria and ingesta to move into the peritoneal cavity. As a result, peritonitis and often abdominal adhesions occur. Signs and symptoms of TRP include lack of milk, rumenarticular atony, symptoms of abdominal pain, etc. TRP can be treated with antimicrobial therapy, rumen magnet procedure, or surgery.
