AMTSL Full Form in Medical term is Active Management of the Third Stage of Labor. Even though it may be avoided, postpartum hemorrhage continues to be the greatest cause of maternal mortality worldwide. (AMTSL) can reduce the risk of this complication, which typically arises during this stage of labor.
The (WHO) created the Active Management of Labor and Delivery (AMTSL) protocol, which consists of a number of measures including the administration of uterotonic medicines immediately following foetal delivery, controlled chord traction, or massaging of the uterine fundus.
Cause
One of the leading causes of maternal death and disability is postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) and related blood loss issues. There is no universally accepted definition of PPH because its use varies by country.
The global prevalence of this condition is 11% among laboring women. The third phase of labor is considered to be the period after birth until the placenta is expelled. The final phase lasts between six and thirty minutes.
We still don’t know much about the TSL’s underlying aetiology. After the delivery of the baby, the placenta is pushed out of the uterus and a capillary haemorrhage forms; then, the placental surface shrinks as a result of uterine contractions; and, eventually, the placenta is expelled from the uterus.
