MRM full form in medical term is Modified Radical Mastectomy, which is the procedure for breast cancer. It involves removing the entire breast, including breast tissue, skin, nipple, and areola, along with most of the lymph nodes in the armpits.
This procedure may be recommended to a person whose breast cancer has spread to the axillary lymph nodes. So, MRM is an option to treat any breast cancer where there may be a reason to eliminate ALN. In addition to treating female breast cancer, it is used to address breast cancer as well. Moreover, it is considered the most effective and safest option for treating breast cancer.
MRM is divided into two types:
1. Auchincloss modified radical mastectomy
This type maintained the pectoralis minor and pectoralis major.
2. Patey modified radical mastectomy
While the pectoralis major muscle is maintained in this type, the pectoralis minor muscle won’t.
